Host state
This page is written as a starting point for the host state organisers. This competition can only work through the dedication of volunteers from state organisations. When it is your time, please consider putting your hand up to volunteer.
Equipment requirements
There will be 4 divisions (Open & Girls in both primary and secondary school). There are 6 to 8 teams per division. The competition is a round robin with boards 1-4 playing the corresponding board number of all other teams.
The competition needs 48-64 clocks, boards and pieces for each round. Spare clocks & batteries will be required.
Assuming two boards per table you will need 24-32 tables and 96 to 128 chairs.
You will need 480 to 640 score sheets.
Trophies
- There are perpetual trophies. Please liaise with AusJCL committee to make sure they are available for the tournament.
- 60 trophies (up to 5 people per team, 4 divisions and 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize trophies).
- 16 board prize medallions (optional).
- 130 certificate of participation (optional).
Winners Trophies
All trophies should be the same, in case one team has two reserves and another no reserves. It is very rare for a team to bring two reserves, in which case an extra trophy may have to be organised later, or if you think it is a possibility buy one extra trophy for the tournament.
1. Open Secondary – up to 5 trophies (allow 1 for reserves) for winning team members
2. Girls Secondary – up to 5 trophies (allow 1 for reserves) for winning team members
3. Open Primary – up to 5 trophies (allow 1 for reserves) for winning team members
4. Girls Primary- up to 5 trophies (allow 1 for reserves) for winning team members
Board Prizes
1. Open Secondary – trophy or medallion for boards 1 to 4 (ie 4 required)
2. Girls Secondary – trophy or medallion for boards 1 to 4 (ie 4 required)
3. Open Primary – trophy or medallion for boards 1 to 4 (ie 4 required)
4. Girls Primary – trophy or medallion for boards 1 to 4 (ie 4 required)
Certificate of Participation
It is possible that there could be up to 192 players (4 divisions x 8 teams x 6 players). However it is normally closer to 96 players (4 divisions x 6 teams x 4 players). While some teams may have more than four players, some divisions often have less than 6 teams. Budgeting for 130 certificates would be sufficient.
Checklist
It is not a huge amount of work to run the competition, but here is a quick checklist if you are thinking about it.

- Have you read the guidelines?
- Have you got an arbiter?
- Have you got somebody to organise trophies?

- Has AusJCL agreed to your budget?
- Is there somebody who can update the website info?
- Is there somebody to prepare for the competition and answer questions?
- Is there somebody to run the competition over the weekend?
