Until being defunded by the Australian Chess Federation (ACF) and then disbanded in January 2018, the Australian Junior Chess League (AusJCL) operated under the ACF, and was responsible for managing the national and international affairs of Australian junior chess. This AJC site is now used for junior chess notices, including a tournament calendar and hosting applications for the Australian Junior Elite Training Squad.
The Australian Junior Elite Training Squad is a development squad for 30 junior players, mostly in the age range 10-14. Unless exceptional circumstances exist, eligibility for the Squad will require participation in one of: a tournament which is part of the Australian Championships or Open, or a tournament as part of the Australian Young Masters, or the Australian Junior Championships.
The main JETS camp – a week of intensive Grandmaster and International Master training and competition – is held during the July school holidays each year. All coaching is provided free, although there may be an entry fee for the accompanying tournament.
Applications for International Events
Applications for players wishing to represent Australia in International Junior events should now be directed to the Australian Chess Federation.
